Help wanted by rotund failing vet.I appear to be useless this year. Going slower getting dropped quicker. Any quick fixes out there? Or should I stick to spectating?

Legs and lungs
I hear Ciclos Uno have a sale on new legs and lungs if that helps?
One question though (sensible one too!) do you train on your own? If the answer is yes, then welcome to the club! I find I just can't get any better at the moment, and I know my main problem is that I just don't push myself as hard as I could do. Back in the days when I was winning things I used to train with the Southend chain gang and train with riders far better than myself. That worked wonders! I won loads of stuff back then (okay and I was fourteen years younger as well I suppose, that helped a little *cough*) but it makes sense that when you train on your own - if it hurts... You ease up. You don't get that luxury in a race, so training that way is a good step in the right direction!

Training
training is a little more scientific now so suggest you speak to a coach and maybe start with a fitness assessment such as a Kingcycle ramp test.
Stan Turner does these in Brentwood for a modest fee.
Maybe the Ciclos Uno club will be organising a club run on Sundays when this season finishes. We could meet at or near the shop at 9am for a 3 hour ride.
